Ferroptosis modulation

Stopping cellular rust before it spreads.

FiriX Therapeutics develops the FXTi series, a new generation of ferroptosis inhibitors that act as cellular Kevlar: protecting organs and the central nervous system from iron-driven cell death.

The science

Ferroptosis is biological rust.

An iron-driven chain reaction destroys the cell membrane from within. Once started, it spreads to neighbouring cells that were otherwise healthy. Blocking this cascade protects tissue that would otherwise be lost.

STEP 1 Fe2+

Iron accumulates

Labile iron builds up inside the cell, beyond its capacity to store it safely.

STEP 2 •OH

Radicals form

Free iron drives oxidative chemistry, generating reactive oxygen species.

STEP 3 L–OOH

Lipids peroxidize

Radicals attack polyunsaturated membrane lipids in a self-amplifying chain reaction.

STEP 4

Membrane ruptures

The damaged membrane fails, and ferroptotic death propagates to adjacent cells.

The FXTi platform

A dual mechanism shield against ferroptosis.

Our founders are leaders in ferroptosis biology. From a library of more than 300 in-house molecules, the FXTi series combines two protective actions in a single compound. One chemistry, many organs: a pipeline in a product.

Radical trapping

Terminates the lipid peroxidation chain reaction inside the membrane, where the damage happens.

Organelle iron transport

Modulates how iron is distributed between cellular compartments, removing the fuel that drives the cascade.

Organ protectionFXT-001

Preserving donor organs during transplantation

Ferroptosis inhibition preserved liver and lung graft function during ex vivo organ perfusion, in large-animal models that closely mirror clinical practice.

  • Ex vivo liver perfusion
  • Ex vivo lung perfusion
  • Mechanism characterised at organelle level

NeuroprotectionFXT-004 / 005

Blocking disease progression in the CNS

In preclinical models of central nervous system disease, ferroptosis inhibition halted disease progression after treatment start, supporting a disease-modifying approach.

  • Blocks disease progression in vivo
  • Protects neural tissue from ferroptotic damage
  • Next-generation candidates in lead optimization
